Fast Copy vs Precise Re-encode — Which Should I Choose?
Video files are encoded as sequences of keyframes (full frames) and delta frames (differences from the previous frame). A trimmer has two ways to cut:
- ⚡ Fast (Stream Copy) — ffmpeg's
-c copy. Slices the file at the nearest keyframe before your start time. No re-encoding, no quality loss, and typically finishes in under 3 seconds. The tradeoff: the clip may start up to ~1s before your requested time (until the next keyframe). Recommended for most use cases. - 🎯 Precise (Re-encode) — ffmpeg with H.264 + AAC. Cuts exactly at your requested millisecond and produces a clean, keyframe-aligned MP4 that plays cleanly everywhere. Takes 5–30 seconds depending on clip length. Recommended when you need to hit an exact frame (e.g., meme creation, tutorial clipping).

Why does my clip start a bit early in Fast mode?
Fast mode cuts at the nearest keyframe before your requested start time (typically 0.5–2 seconds earlier) so there's no black frame at the start. For frame-accurate cuts, switch to Precise mode.
